Going to hair-dresser with your own kit?

Do we share combs at home? —no, we don’t normally. And if sometimes on rare occasions this is done, we are not quite comfortable about it. Isn’t it ?

Then how come we don’t bother much about the combs being shared by thousands of clients? I used to think about this many years ago. And used to be a very fussy customer for any hair dresser.

Then about 15years or ago, I noticed some people are going to hair-dresser with their own kit. It is not a big deal –just a scissor, one or two combs and a razor with blade. If you ask your hair-dresser, he would arrange it for you just for hundred bucks or so.

Generally when we talk about aseptic protocol at a hair-saloon, we just feel if he is changing the blade everytime, it is just okay. However, I feel we need to look beyond it. In a surgical operation, the medical team also uses a scalpel with a disposable blade. And after every surgery, the scalpel on which that blade is put is sterilized before using it on the next patient. Similarly when a razor is being used at a hair-dresser, there is every possibility of a few minor cuts –could be micro-cuts—and for the next customer just changing the blade is good enough? What about small amount of blood or other body fluids those cling to the razor. Just think about it.

Just think about that machine that is being used on all the customers. I have asked the hair-dresser not to use that machine on me.

When I was asking you about sharing of combs, I just wanted to draw your attention towards the fact that out of thousands of clients on which hair-dresser’s combs are used, many must be suffering from some skin disorder or some other scalp infections –could be anything.

Similarly, you must have also noticed that the scissors there are used for many years on hundreds if not thousands of clients. And many times if you remember we all gets minor cuts and bruises from  such scissors while being at a hair-saloon.
Purpose of this article is not to create panic –it is just to draw attention to a very valid issue of sharing of gadgets at a hair-saloon. We must be aware about this.

By the way I have been carrying my kit to a hair-dresser for the last say 15-16 years. My sons also carry it. What is your opinion about it ?
