This boy 15year old had come to me for dental check-up. In fact I had motivated his father two years ago also for getting specialized orthodontic care. However, people just think that it is prudent not to seek any treatment if the child is not having any symptoms.
In this photographs, you can see the abnormal relationship of upper and lower teeth. There is marked prominence maxillary (upper) front teeth. When he clenches his teeth, his lower teeth give an abnormal “thrust” to the upper teeth. This is known as trauma from occlusion. If left untreated, it is just a matter of few years that the child starts getting into various problems of gums and teeth.
In these photographs you can notice this side facial profile –just pay attention to the “retruded” facial profile.
I have heard many times and noticed several times that at times heredity does have a role in the causation of this problem. But that is not the only one — kids develop oral parafunctional habits like thumb-sucking, tongue thrusting etc which can definitely add fuel to the fire of developing malocclusion.
Now when I have written the heredity angle, I just noticed that the mother ( Age 45years) of this young boy is also having the similar problem of abnormal relationship of upper and lower teeth. You can see her dental photograph also.
And the boy needs orthodontic treatment –thank Heavens, his parents are quite convinced for his orthodontic care.
PS…This boy was obese and when they told me that his grandma is giving him a gift of motor-bike today. I tried to convince the parents that request his grandma that instead of motor-bike , he should buy him a simple bike so that this young man can be initiated into peddling his way to losing extra kilos. No problem, his grandpa can sponsor his orthodontic treatment with that money. I don’t know whether I acted correctly while giving that advice. Never mind, I speak form my truth and I feel I nicely fulfilled my duty .
