I am writing this post with my heart. So, don’t take it too seriously. These are the thoughts that keep on coming to me and I keep on sharing these.
My question is how a pill taken for High Blood Pressure control it? We all know that in a human body billions and trillions of physiological processes are going on 24×7, and continuously millions of chemical reactions are going on. Then how come we expect that just taking a pill or two will take care of our body—how it can normalize Blood Pressure. There are so many interactions going on and most of these can never be understood by the scientists.
But even then we take tablets to control Blood Pressure. Please don’t feel that I am in any way trying to influence you to stop taking Blood Pressure medicines. No way, please follow your physician’s advice and keep on taking medicines.
My grudge is that we have become too much centred on Medicines for all our body ailments. Since we have taken example of Hypertension, once we start taking Blood Pressure tablets and the readings start getting ok, we just start becoming complacent and start basking in false sense of security.
Don’t we think that now BP is ok, I can safely carry on with my life-style – my old food habits, smoking and drinking, sedentary life-style and all that stuff. We just get relaxed – I have seen for the last three decades that life-style illnesses are the most poorly managed illnesses the world over. The patients are not ready to change their habits and adopt healthy life-styles.
The problems in developing nations are complex – lack of timely expert advice, poor quality and spurious medicines, illiteracy, and list is endless.
So, what we need to do? – Just follow the advice of your doctor for taking medicines and also about precautions. But just be vigilant about your own lifestyle. That is extremely important for management and prevention of all these life style illnesses.
My question still is —How can a blood pressure pill lower the high blood pressure? No doubt, it does and we need to take it as per professional advice but of course with the above life-style changes. Hurriedly to name a few — controlling our salt intake, our sugar intake, as far as possible staying away from processed and fast foods and incorporating daily exercise and maintaining healthy body weight. If we are ready to do all that, there is all the possibility that the blood pressure will automatically start coming down. But please let your physician check it and formally declare it.
